Episode 153: From Painting The White House To Cleaning Homes: Family Legacy Entrepreneurship with Brandon Schoen
Announcer:
Grow your cleaning business. Make more money, have more time. This is the profit Cleaners podcast with your hosts, Brandon Condrey and Brandon Schoen.
Brandon Schoen:
Hey, everybody. Welcome back to another episode of the Profit Cleaners Podcast. I'm your host, Brandon Shane, and you are in the place where the top 1% of cleaning business owners around the world are taking it to the next level and win. And welcome to the show, guys.
I'm excited to be here with you. Today's show is a little different. Doing a quick solo episode just to encourage you guys, inspire you guys, share a personal story in my life of entrepreneurship and really just share with you guys why I think, and I know that entrepreneurs are going to change the world. It's not going to be politicians, it's not going to be other leaders that are doing stuff that are probably just screwing things up right now.
It's entrepreneurs, the problem solvers, the people that are going to get it done, that are consistent, that are relentless, that have grit, fortitude, perseverance, all the qualities that get you to push through walls and bust through walls and do what most people could never do. That's what we're talking about, guys, and that's why we're doing this business, is to change the world. That's why we're sharing this with you, is to change your life and to help you shift gears and just take it to the next level.
So I want to share with you guys a quick story. Growing up as an entrepreneur. I grew up of in a family of entrepreneurs, to be totally clear with you. My dad had a commercial real estate business growing up. I worked with him, sold some properties with him in college. I'm actually getting back into real estate now. I love real estate, but always saw my dad growing up as an entrepreneur.
And I always saw things differently, like, you know, just seeing that perspective, like my dad running his own business, having more time to spend with me as a kid. I'll never forget those amazing memories and, you know, just the fact that my dad was took that risk so that we could have the lifestyle we did growing up. And it wasn't always easy. Don't get me wrong. We had some really hard years.
But ultimately, you know, that's why business is a challenge. It's a game, and you gotta get good at the game. So growing up with my dad saw that. And then, you know, thinking back further, I've had lots of other people in my family, specifically one of my uncles was an inventor. He had a 3A patent that he licensed to 3M. So that was Kind of cool. We had him, an inventor.
They went to like Dartmouth or Harvard, Stanford, one of those, some of those top schools. Not that that matters, but you know, by the way, guys, one of my favorite quotes about education from Jim Rohn is, you know, traditional education will earn you a living, but self education will earn you a fortune. And I must say that one more time, traditional education, college school will earn you a living.
Self education, this right here, what I'm talking about on this podcast. You guys listening to this podcast will earn you a fortune. And that's why we do this. They don't teach this in school. There's no class, there's no college program that teaches you how to scale a seven figure cleaning business. That's why we do it on this podcast, guys, we're the real deal. I went to business school, I traveled the world, did international business, still do international business.
We have you guys all around the world. We're helping. But this business is going to change your life. It's going to change your team's lives, your clients lives. And other than that, going back in my family, this other story that I really want to tell you guys was my grandpa, he actually, and I didn't even know this until maybe 10, 5 years ago he passed away, you know, just a few years ago.
But I got the chance to sit down at dinner with him when we were back east. All my family's from back east, Washington, D.C., Maryland, that area. And my grandpa lived in Kensington, Chevy Chase area, if you guys are familiar with Maryland, had an amazing house, fortunately, when he passed away that, you know, his wife inherited it or fortunately. But, but what I'm saying is it was an amazing house.
It was a multimillion dollar house. And I remember growing up, you know, going to the, we would go back to Maryland, visit my family every summer, go to the beach out in Ocean City, Maryland. It was like one of my favorite trips. Every summer as a kid and my family would go there. We would stay at my grandpa's condo, wake up every morning to the ocean, go out crabbing, blue crabs, you know, in the Chesapeake Bay.
Go crabbing, go, you know, hang out on the beach. I loved it, and I still love the beach to this day. But that memory, I remember it so well. But looking back, you know, and having this conversation with my grandpa when he was still alive, I got to know him a little more and just figure out something amazing. You know, Another entrepreneur story in my family was that my grandpa had not a cleaning business, but he had a service business.
He had A painting business back in Maryland, many, many years ago, probably in the 70s or whenever this was. And he had a crew of almost a hundred painters. And guess what they painted? They painted the White House. They painted all the buildings in Washington D.C., all the congressional buildings, all the political buildings, all the stuff that you see in Washington D.C. but the White House, right? My grandpa's team painted the White House.
As you know, we don't love adding new services to our business, but in the case of Breezy Blue, we're all for it. To learn more about this incredible new product for your cleaning business, head to profitcleaners.com
breezyblue bethsprofitcleaners.com Breezy Blue from that, like I had that conversation with him. I remember sitting down and him just telling me all about that business and us comparing that, you know, to the cleaning business I was starting to build at that time, years ago when we were in the very beginning, just how many parallels there were and how many amazing connections we had. Because he had done the same thing, right?
He had built up a service business with painters. They had all these amazing jobs. They were artists for the most part too. And they did amazing, amazing work and built a business that allowed them to have this incredible life, have a condo on the beach and have a multimillion dollar house. And I always wondered like, what did grandpa do? Like, but come to find out he was an amazing entrepreneur.
And so I just wanted to share that story with you guys because it's not like you don't have to have people in your family like that. But I just, you know, for me learning that story from my grandpa, it made me realize like, wow, like I do come from a line of entrepreneurs. Like in people in my family are entrepreneurs. And it's changed my life, changed the way I grew up and it changed the way I saw the world.
And even to this day, it empowers me to know that I can carry on that legacy of entrepreneurship, right? And I can carry that onto my kids and I can show my kids. I've got five kids that I'm raising up right now, right? Just had a newborn baby girl, 12 weeks old, all the way to my 12 year old son. And I'm teaching my kids right now how to be Entrepreneurs.
Because I think there's nothing better in the world that you could do then be an entrepreneur. And again, entrepreneurs are going to change the world because we are the action takers, we are the problem solvers. We are the ones that get it done and don't give up when everyone else does. And we do the hard stuff now, today, so that we can have the life tomorrow that nobody else will have.
And so I just want to encourage you guys with that story. Whether or not you have entrepreneurs in your family, just remember that it is a worthy goal. What you are doing is a worthy goal. There's a worthy ideal, There is something worth achieving. To be able to create your own future, to be the master of your own ship, the master of your own destiny, right? And to be able to create opportunities to solve a problem in your community and create opportunities, create jobs for people, right?
To create history, to change the world. That's what we're talking about. Entrepreneurs are going to change the world. And so my story of my grandpa painting the White House and having a huge crew and a team doing that and how it changed his life and it rippled effect down all the way to my mom and then my family. And now I'm inspired and I'm teaching my kids entrepreneurship, right?
And so I'm just wanting you guys to realize the lasting history and the shift in your family and the legacy you can create by creating a business. And guys, creating a business is not easy. 95% of businesses fail in the first five years. It's not easy. So how do you counteract that? How do you circumvent the possibility of failure? Through knowledge, right? Through modeling success. Success leaves clues.
Follow the clues that success leaves behind. Don't try to reinvent the wheel and do everything on your own and figure it out on your own. That's how people lose. That's how people burn out and give up and quit because they feel like they can't do it. They don't know what they're doing. So instead, model success, right? And be inspired by the entrepreneurs that have gone before you and notice what they did well and notice what they didn't do well.
Learn from their mistakes. That's what Warren Buffett always says. Better to learn from other people's mistakes than to learn from your own. So all that to say, guys, I just wanted to share that quick story with you. You know, from my grandpa paint painting the White House with his service crew all the way to me, years later, a whole nother generation later, a couple generations later, creating the Same effect essentially in a different industry, but serving our community, serving people in their homes, cleaning their homes, and ultimately passing on a legacy business.
Whether or not my kids inherit this business or we sell it and exit someday. Either way, the value that you guys have, the potential, opportunity you have to inspire the people around you, right? You can change your your life, you can change your community's life, you can change your team's life. If you have kids, imagine how much more impacted and inspired your kids are going to be to maybe start their own thing someday.
To realize that they can be free too. They can set themselves free. They can put these things in place and take a different path, right? It's the road less traveled, but it also has so many worthy benefits and it's a worthy goal, what you're doing. So I just wanted to encourage you guys with the fact that even though it's hard, entrepreneurship is the hardest thing you'll probably ever do in your life by far.
It is not easy. It is not one and done. It is never done. It is a constant journey. You guys are always going to be on it. You're never going to be done. So the best thing you guys can do is continue sharpening your ax, continue improving your mindset, continue investing in knowledge, continue to surround yourself with people who are doing it so you can model that success and not take shortcuts, but take smart cuts, take ways to compress that time.
And just like we did, we built a seven figure business in two years where it took my mentor and most people 10 or 20 or longer. You know. So if we could take 20 years and do it in two years, what would that be worth to you guys, right? And so if you can do that and change your life faster, change your community like your team members life and even inspire your family, what would that be worth?

We want to help you guys continue to change your life, change your world, change your family's life, and continue passing on that legacy.
So maybe you didn't have another entrepreneur in your family that created this initial legacy. You can be the one that carries the torch and hands it off and inspires your family to break free of the system, to break free of really being a slave to a job, right? Something maybe you don't enjoy doing that you hate. Instead, do something you love. Do something that actually impacts the world and creates change, right?
If you don't like the world, be the change in the world that you want to see, right? So start doing that right now with your own business and inspiring yourself, right? Get out of your own way, inspire yourself, learn something new knowledge comes from experience, but so you can either do it on your own or continue to learn on this podcast. Continue to surround yourself with people doing it, and that'll.
You'll get there a lot faster doing it that way. But ultimately, guys, that's what we're here to do, is share the knowledge, share how this has changed our life and how this can change your life. And I just want to encourage you guys, if you're out there doing this, you're out there hustling, you're out there cleaning right now. Don't give up. Continue to build that perseverance, grit, fortitude, and don't give up, guys, because the journey is long, but it is worth it, right?
And continue to build your team. If you want to go somewhere fast, go alone. If you want to go far, build a team and go with your team. So continue to listen to the podcast, guys.
