Episode 41: 10X Cleaning Business Toolkit: Taking your Cleaning Biz to the Next Level

Brandon Schoen:
I kinda think of this as two-fold like, you want to have your reason why. Personally, I think for us, we said it was freedom, lifestyle, but really just wanted to spend more time with our family, our kids. And ultimately, this is the kind of business that you can streamline and make it so efficient that you can have more time with your family. So keep that in mind. But if that's what drives you, whatever it is that gets you excited gets you really driven to go out because motivation is going to falter. You're not always going to be motivated because you're going to have a crappy day. But if you have something deeper than that, like a reason why that when you really don't feel like doing the hard stuff, it's going to drive you to do it anyways. Cause you're like, I'm going to do this and I'm going to create this system and I'm going to spend more time with my family. I'm going to go on that vacation. I'm gonna travel the world, whatever it is that gets you pumped up. That's your reason why personally.

Announcer:
Grow your cleaning business, make more money, have more time. This is the Profit Cleaners podcast with your host Brandon Condrey and Brandon Schoen.

Brandon Schoen:
Welcome everyone to the course we're here. This is Brandon Schoen, Brandon Condrey, and you are here to experience next level in your business, growing your business. Welcome to the 10X toolkit for marketing and selling more cleaning business clients and getting your business to that next level. So we want to just give you guys a quick overview, kind of a little background of our story. Maybe you heard on the podcast, but we just want to reiterate our story, how this business came to be, and just maybe inspire you guys where we started from zero and where we're at now. Seven-figure business in less than three years. And just want to share that story with you guys. So let's dive in. Let's tell him a little bit about the beginning, how this all started.

Brandon Condrey:
How's the beginning we met at the park. Yeah. Plan started to realize we were both on the same vein of entrepreneurship and then started kicking around business ideas. Like let's get a, build a bear workshop, but it's on a trailer and we can take it to someone's house. So just start the wacky weird stuff. And then I saw a Reddit post and it was from a software guy, his name's Rohan Gilkey and he had jumped software platform called launch 27. And that's cleaning with independent contractors, which we don't do obviously. But the way he laid out this post was, if you take a local service business, it's an unsexy business and you try and compete with these mom and pop local companies. But you bring in all this modern tech with ads and CRMs and stuff that you'd be able to just accelerate really fast. So I sent you an email with a link to the post. I was like, Hey man, do you want to start a cleaning business with me? Yeah. And so we started kicking that around. I was like looking, I know this guy in Denver, who I was a customer of. He had a really dialed in. Let's send them an email. So we sent him an email asking if he would be willing to coach us, like show us how to do it in a different state. And so we worked out a deal that's Corby. You guys have heard him talked about several times, but we worked out a consulting deal where we would pay him in exchange for 15 years of experience. So that's how we got going.

Brandon Schoen:
That's number one guys is find a mentor you're in this course. So we're technically your mentors or one of your mentors on this journey. So you're already a huge, huge leap ahead of a lot of people that are just trying to figure this out on their own, working really hard, not smart, you're doing the opposite. So finding a mentor is going to help you sidestep so many years of challenges that you're going to overcome to get to that success. Right? Yeah. So, yeah. So that's what it's all about. We're starting with that. When we started the goal for starting this business, wasn't just to start another business to make more money because we had started other businesses in the past, I had done online businesses. Brandon had started other businesses and we really wanted to create a business that had the whole concept of freedom. We still wanted to have that lifestyle. We have families, we have kids. So we didn't want to be working all the time and just creating another job for ourselves, which unfortunately a lot of people do when they start a business. So really important.

Brandon Condrey:
You wanted it to be sustainable. So it's not the website that might fall apart when someone's algorithm changed. It was real working, living thing that would keep going on its own if we weren't involved day to day. And that's how we reverse engineer from the beginning so that the owners didn't have to be in there doing stuff is we can build it up at the beginning and then separate ourselves. And we're working towards that every day. But the idea is more freedom, more lifestyle and that you get control over the thing. Like I really liked being the boss. I like being able to say like, no, we're not going to do that. We're going to do this instead. And here's why so.

Brandon Schoen:
So we have identified this as a business that definitely has that potential. I mean, most businesses do if you create the right systems and the right processes and things on the backend to streamline it. So you're not just constantly working all the time and working yourself to the bone. But next we really wanted to determine where's the hole in the market. This is like the classic entrepreneur thing that you want to do when you're starting any business is find where the problem is. Like, what would I, what do I need for myself if I was needing this service or this product and how can we make it better? And where's the hole in the market.

Brandon Condrey:
So Yeah, we had already identified that because when I moved to Albuquerque, we tried to get a cleaning company and I thought all the ones were like the one that we had in Denver. And then it turned out that they were terrible at customer service, terrible at cleaning didn't show up on time expensive. There were loads of problems, but it's the entrepreneur brain tingling that there might be a problem here. There might be an opportunity that we can fix.

Brandon Schoen:
And there's always that doubt that comes into your mind. Like even if you go and read the reviews of your competitors, maybe there are some really bad ones out there. Maybe there's a lot of good competition in your local community. However, you got to think abundantly, there's always enough to go around. There's always room for improvement. There's always a way you can be different, more unique and better a lot of times because you're able to do something that no one else is doing.

Brandon Condrey:
Yeah. So when we started, there was already a cleaning company in town that did environmentally friendly cleaning. That's exactly what we were focused on. Right? Didn't matter. We still blow them out of the water. The point is it's a fractional market, so you're not going to be the only cleaning company in town, unless you live in a very small town and you don't want to compete on price and you'll learn all these things in the course further down, but that's where you start. You pinpointed the problem. You found a niche, the niche is cleaning, but you could niche it even further. It's going to be Airbnb cleaning. It's going to be green cleaning. There's lots of ways to do it.

Brandon Schoen:
So that's another point. Here is the riches are in the niches. You don't want to be all end all for every little local service and you want to be doing landscaping and chimneys, windows, gutter cleaning. And yeah, I mean, you don't want to everything to everyone because then you're speaking to no one. It's really hard to market a business like that. So actually going super narrow, super down into a niche is really, really profitable. And it's one of the best ways you can start, or if you're already doing a cleaning business, but you can niche it down somehow and focus on a certain area, whether that's commercial, whether it's residential, we're doing residential. But like Brandon said, we're actually going a step level down even further and environmentally friendly. Eco-conscious cleaning, things like that. So that's the niche within the niche. So yeah, let's tell them about having a plan.

Brandon Condrey:
Having a plan. So we wrote a business plan specifically to be able to solicit some investment funds from some acquaintances that we knew that were going to put some money in to help us get going. We designed that using software and there's a whole module in the course about the business plan. We're actually going to give you our business plan and then we'll show you how to do the research on the markets and the data to figure out where to pinpoint your efforts. So you don't want to just go into it like, all right, cleaning company, get them up. Let's go. It's a little bit more involved in that. And that's why you're here. We're going to show you how to do that.

Brandon Schoen:
Absolutely. You always want to have a good plan. Otherwise you don't have a map of where you're going. How are you going to get there on the road trip? I'm just going to end up driving all over the place. Never going to get to where your destination is. So have a plan, have a really good one use modeled after our business plan. And then if you don't have access, maybe you don't have a way to raise money. What you do. You've got to think creatively. There's always a way to do it, but there's also ways to bootstrap cleaning businesses. You can totally start from people start all the time from nothing, right? Yeah. Just start getting out there, cleaning, getting those first jobs. There's a way to do it. You can grind it out and hustle it out in the beginning. If you don't have any way, I challenge you guys to think of a way to take this plan and go raise some money and get started and go even faster because it's the kind of business that once you put your back against the wall and do it, you're going to find it picks up momentum and it's gonna start creating revenue. And it's going to be something that can pay those people back a lot quicker than if you just start from scratch, you're going to go a lot slower. And so I would encourage you guys to do that for sure.

Brandon Schoen:
Hey guys, quick question. Does your cleaning business need more customers? And the answer is of course, yes. So if you're like us and you want more customers, we've created a 10X marketing bootcamp course to help you guys 10X your business, get to that seven figures and beyond, and really commit to your success. So if you're ready to commit, let's tell him where to go.

Brandon Condrey:
Head over to Profitcleaners.com/courses. You can get started right away.

Brandon Schoen:
And we'll see you guys on the inside. Keep it clean!

Brandon Condrey:
Keep it clean.

Brandon Schoen:
So reason why.

Brandon Condrey:
Yeah. So the reason why I shouldn't be, I need more money. It shouldn't be something basic like that. We told you our reason why at the beginning, but it was to have a sustainable sort of freedom bound lifestyle that we could do what we want when we want it to do it and still have the business take care of itself in the background. And then you can evolve that a little bit. Part of the reason why, as you wanted to give back to the local community, you want to integrate yourself as a local business. That's what sets you apart from franchises all the time, the franchise is beholden to shareholders and yada yada yada, and they cover your marketing budget and we, Hey, we changed it. So now the uniform and logo looks like this. You're not really in control. Ingratiating ourselves to the local community was the cleaning that we do for cancer patients. That was always part of the deal that we had. We set that up with a local hospital before we had even rented our building. We had that pipeline in place on how to deliver our services to cancer patients.

Brandon Schoen:
Yeah. And I think of this as two-fold like, you want to have your reason why personally. And I think for us, like we said, it was freedom lifestyle, but really you just wanted to spend more time with our family, our kids. And ultimately this is the kind of business that you can streamline and make it so efficient that you can have more time with your family. So keep that in mind. But if that's what drives you, whatever it is that gets you excited gets you really driven to go out because motivation is going to, it's going to falter. You're not always going to be motivated because you're going to have a crappy day. But if you have something deeper than that, like a reason why that when you really don't feel like doing the hard stuff, it's going to drive you to do it anyways, because you're like, but I'm going to do this. And I'm going to create this system. I'm going to spend more time with my family. I'm going to go on that vacation. I'm a travel the world, whatever it is that gets you pumped up. That's your reason why personally, and then you got to have the reason why for your company and your teams and the customers out there, like what is their reason why that they're going to want to work with you? If they have 10 people that could clean their house, what's the one differentiating factor that you're doing different. That's so compelling that makes them want to say, wow. Yeah, this company, I want to give my money to them because my money is going further. And so with our actual cause that we built into our cleaning business, go read, evolved enterprise by Yanik silver. He talks all about creating this reason and this purpose within your business. But it really does work guys and people, especially now in today's economy, they want to know that their money is going further than just paying people. They want to know that it's helping the community, helping other people in some other way. So incorporate this reason why into your business and your marketing into your story. It is so powerful. It works really, really well.

Brandon Condrey:
Right? Yeah.

Brandon Schoen:
So let's keep it moving on. So when we started the business, we also did a lot of research. And so we'll give you guys some of this research, but even just a general broad overview of looking at the markets, we can pull up Google trends. We'll put a little visual of it here. But basically if you look at the trends in this market, it is what we call an evergreen market. Yeah. What do you mean?

Brandon Condrey:
It never dips down. People are always looking for cleaning year round. So people are only looking for landscaping services in the summer. No one wants to do that in the winter. But with cleaning, you live there year round. Do you want it to be cleaned all the time? So that was the more research we put into it. The more signals we got out that said that this was the right way to go.

Brandon Schoen:
Absolutely. We'll show you that research, but it's huge. It's long-term and that's what we're building here is a long-term business, big picture thinking we're not just one and done overnight business, like a lot of internet businesses and things you can build really quick. They fall down really quick. These businesses take longer to build, but they have longterm sustainability and that's over half a stop. If you get the momentum, it's much harder to stop. So one of the things we always tell our customers, cause you're actually not selling cleaning. You're selling time. You're getting people their time back. And that's a really a huge part of this business. Once you realize that everything changes, I feel like every other business I've done trying to sell widgets and products online and things that you're like, you actually have to like sell people on why they need this widget. Usually the cleaning is amazing. You're solving a major problem. People don't like cleaning. They don't know how to clean. They don't have time to clean. And this is the biggest thing. People can always make more money, but you can never get more time. And so if you can give someone back to their time so they can spend that time with their family or doing whatever they love, that is so valuable. And you don't even have to really sell the cleaning sometimes because people just know it. They just want it. And it's such a beautiful product to be selling. So it's exciting.

Brandon Condrey:
Yeah.

Brandon Schoen:
So I think other than that, we can just tell them some of the big, huge parts of the success we've had. This is an olive it guys, but we just wanted to tell you some of the key things that we think really helped us. So some of them we've already mentioned. I think the number one thing is find a mentor. Yup. That's what you guys are doing here. You're being mentored by us. It's huge because we're going to be able to share with you years and years of mistakes, not just in this business, but our whole lives. Right. Marketing and sales and other things that we've got experienced.

Brandon Condrey:
Yeah. Past experience will lead to future decision making. So yeah, you got us as the mentor. Right? The other thing that we put a lot of faith into is systems in the cleaning industry. So systems revolving around the cleaning, but systems revolving around the office around the marketing ways to automate things by either delegating it to someone else or inventing some system. We use the APR a lot around the office to input this and then it'll do something with the data that always helps you make decisions.

Brandon Schoen:
Yeah. So something to think about is if you're wanting to grow your cleaning business, which you are obviously, that's why you're here. You need to start thinking in terms of systems, like you can obviously do everything in the beginning, but at some point it becomes redundant and you should start thinking, once I, this becomes redundant, how can I delegate this and hand it off to someone else who's even more skilled than I am, who can take it over and they can own that. And then you can actually grow because you have less variables in your business, you have less things that could go wrong and you can become more efficient so that you can scale. You can grow fast without having problems and all these things that are inefficient happen. And so that's why the systems and the operations are so important. So that comes back to the marketing too. That's what we're teaching in this course is a lot of the sales, a lot of the marketing. So when you have those marketing systems, when you, it takes some time to set up, a lot of this stuff is upfront work guys. It's going to be 90% of the work upfront to set up your ads to set up your platform.

Brandon Condrey:
Yeah. But you do it the one time when you let someone else manage the system or the system manages itself with ads, you can pick an audience and a budget and then it'll just, it's happening in the background. You didn't have to do anything with it.

Brandon Schoen:
Yeah, absolutely. So the marketing is huge. That's what you're gonna learn in this course. Grab that attention. That's what the marketing is going to do. Money follows attention. And then you're going to use the techniques and strategies we have in here on the sales to actually close those clients and sell them and bring them into your business as customers, retain them long-term and continue to grow a thriving business. Other than that, I think other than that would be go all in. Right? A lot of people just dip their toe in and they kind of halfway, or they still have a side job hustle thing. It might work. But if you go all in.

Brandon Condrey:
My experience is that it hasn't ever, that hasn't such right before this we're all side hustles. We're going to do this on the side. I'm going to put it up on this website. It'll do a thing. I can do it on the weekends. It just doesn't play out. So You like to always say burn all the ships. We've got to the other side, burn the ships. You can't go back. Yeah. That's the idea. So your back will be up against the wall. Yep. It's a good place to be in. It means that you are in control to move yourself forward. And that's why you're here. You've already got the bits and pieces here. You have a cleaning company or you're starting one right now. And then this course that we're going to teach you in the modules below is how to keep bringing in more revenue and more sales and tweak the marketing. And then that'll give you free time to focus up on the cleaning part of it or the business part of it. The business design all that's happening right now.

Brandon Schoen:
Yeah, absolutely guys. So that pretty much covers it guys. That's a little bit about our story. Why should probably be listening to us, how we can mentor you and we'd love to mentor you. So please guys take massive action. Don't delay. Don't wait to go through this stuff. Take action. Go through it. And the most important part guys is do the work show up every day.

Brandon Condrey:
Do the module, the module taught you how to do.

Brandon Schoen:
Yeah. And if you do that, guys, if you do the work you show up everyday, even when you don't feel like it, you're going to take that action. You're going to get another little bit of momentum. Another thing you learned, it's going to feel hard, but then once you start doing it, you train your brain to do the hard stuff and you show up every day, it's going to start happening. The stuff is going to start accumulating. They're going to get more customers. Your business is going to grow. You're going to start seeing that success.

Brandon Condrey:
Yep. So, all right. Enjoy the course guys. And we'll see you in future videos.

Brandon Schoen:
Keep it clean.
